Graduation Requirements

The State Board of Education Bulletin 201 list the following requirements:

A. "A student shall be eligible for graduation from grade twelve upon completion of the required units listed below, plus at least 10 units of elective courses, and any requirement of the local Board of Education".

Students graduating will be required to complete 16 units of required courses:

1. English Language Arts: 4 units

2. Social Studies (Am. History, Am. Govt.): 3 units

3. Laboratory Science: 3 units

4. Physical Education & Health: 1 unit

5. Mathematics: 3 units

6. Computer Science: 1 unit

7. Fine Arts: 1 unit

Requirements for graduation from Osage City High School, as established by the Board of Education, are 26 units of high school credit effective with the 2003-2004 school year. To qualify for graduation, a student must be enrolled as a full-time student the first semester of their fourth year. All students are encouraged to attend the full four years of high school. A total of 4 credit units may be granted by correspondence or approved on-line courses. The high school counselor and the high school principal will make the selection courses. Permission to graduate early must be given by the superintendent, principal, counselor, and parents after the student submits proper application. Valedictorian and Salutatorian honors will be based upon the first 3 1/2 years of high school attendance.

Seniors who have met their graduation requirements with the exception of English 12 will be eligible to go to school on a part time basis during the second semester of the senior year. The high school principal and counselor must meet with the student and parents/guardians before the conclusion of the first semester prior placing students on a part time status.

2004/2005 27 credits

2005/2006 28 credits

Students will have the possibility to earn 8 credits per year. Students will be classified at the beginning of the school term according to the number of credits earned as follows:

0-7 credits Freshman

8-14 credits Sophomore

15-22 credits Junior

23+ credits Senior

Students who do not fulfill the above requirements will not be allowed to participate in graduation ceremonies.
