Osage City High School

May 2008 Newsletter

Graduation

Graduation will be held on May 18 at 2:00 p.m. in the Richard Homewood Gymnasium.  Students that do not fulfill graduation requirements will not be permitted to participate in graduation ceremonies.

Scholarship and Academic Awards Ceremony

Scholarships and Academic Awards will be on May 7 at 2:00 in the auditorium.  Academic awards will NOT include honor roll awards.

Enrollment

Enrollment for next year will be occurring during the next few weeks.  The high school schedule for next year will be very similar to this year’s schedule.   We will be offering dual credit in American History, Government, Psychology, Calculus and College Algebra next year at Osage City High School.  Students also have the flexibility to take classes at Allen County at the Burlingame campus throughout their senior year.

Schedules should be completed and reviewed by parents prior to school ending this year.  Schedule changes next year will be discouraged and difficult to facilitate as classes fill up. If you have questions about enrollment or your student’s schedule, please call the high school office.

Powerschool and Report Cards

The high school is looking at mailing report cards and down slips next year to only those parents who do not have easy access to Powerschool or those who choose to still have them mailed.  With increasing postage, this will be an area to cut expenses.

Athletic Physicals

All physicals for next year may be completed after May 1, 2008.  You can pick up physical forms from the junior high and high school offices or by accessing the KSHSAA website.  Go to www.kshsaa.org and click on Forms, etc under the heading of Related Links, then click on the Physical Forms button on the next page.  The PPE Form may be printed on a single or oversized sheet or on four separate sheets and stapled.  As in the past, completed forms are retained by the school and should not be sent to the KSHSAA.

Down Slips/ Academics

Down slips were mailed on April 15.  If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Camarena or myself.  Spring is very busy for students with sports and other activities.  Please encourage your students to stay on top of their schoolwork throughout the last quarter.

Summer School

Summer school will be offered to all students who have failed courses.  Mr. Towle will facilitate summer school through Virtual Prescriptive Learning, an on-line curriculum.  This curriculum has been developed by Greenbush and has been aligned with all Kansas State Standards and the Board of Regents.  Registration for summer school will be in early May.  I strongly encourage all students who have failed credits to take advantage of this opportunity.  Please Contact Mrs. Camarena in the high school office with any questions.
