KSHSAA - COVID-19 Spring Activities Update
The KSHSAA is committed to the safety of our student-participants and the health of our school communities. Accordingly, in response to Governor Kelly’s Executive Order regarding the closure and cessation of in-person instruction in all Kansas schools through May 29, 2020, the KSHSAA is cancelling all spring championships, competitions, and festivals for the remainder of this school year. The KSHSAA recognizes the value of school activities for all students and school communities, but the current situation does not permit the opportunity for school activities to take place in a manner that is consistent with the very reason school activities exist.
UPDATE: Updates are coming daily on the COVID-19 situation. As of 4:00 PM today, Commissioner of Education, Randy Watson, has highly recommended all schools across the state of Kansas close school this next week of March 16 - 20. This recommendation will be supported by Governor Kelly this evening in a press release.
There will be NO extra-curricular activity practices during this week. Only essential personnel should be in buildings. Custodians will be doing deep cleaning through the week. School will tentatively resume on Monday, March 23. However, KSDE is formulating plans on how to assist schools if we are closed longer.
Updates will continue daily on this situation and I will communicate information as soon as it becomes available.
KSHSAA - COVID 19 – Updated information for spring activities
Effective Monday, March 16, all spring sports and activities are suspended through Sunday, March 22. This includes cancellation of all practices and competitions for this week. This prohibition is consistent with KSDE and governmental guidance and may be extended, should conditions warrant. Please note spring sports team members are prohibited from club or outside team participation and practice during this period. Not only would such outside participation be contrary to handbook rule, it would be contrary to the very reason activities are cancelled during the time we seek to mitigate potential transfer of the contagion.
